The wood is not dried, of course, thanks to the presence in the wood structure of natural acids and tannins, impregnation is not necessary. How long does a chestnut fence last? Chestnut wood has a durability of about 25 years, hazel about 15 years. Acacia wood or Robinia has a hardness comparable to oak or teak. Acacia wood is the most sustainable European wood. and also has a lifespan of about 25 years. Chestnut wood, acacia and hazel are untreated and do not require chemical treatment for longer durability, in addition it is a very good alternative to impregnated wood. Recommended by environmental organizations and the Ministry of the Environment. Test method NEN-EN-350-2. indicates an expected service life. Due to all kinds of different circumstances, this can deviate upwards or downwards. This can be due to the type of soil, but also to load, whether something is poured into concrete, moisture, etc. We cannot give a guarantee on an expected lifespan.
