Why choose wall cladding

The appearance of a building plays an important role in the overall look of your home, office, or property. One such element is wall cladding. Thermally modified wood cladding not only gives a warm appearance but also has excellent insulating properties. It is suitable for both modern homes and traditional buildings. Due to its strong thermal properties, this wood helps retain heat inside a building. Additionally, wall cladding contributes to a comfortable indoor temperature, which can enhance energy efficiency.

Where is our wall cladding consisting of

Our wall cladding is made from thermally modified wood. This wood is suitable for all weather conditions and climates. It is resin-free, dimensionally stable, and comes with a guaranteed lifespan of 25 years. It is KOMO and PEFC certified. For the facade cladding, only the highest quality pine and spruce wood are processed into thermally modified wood. Thermal modification of wood is a patented production process that causes permanent changes to the chemical and physical properties of the wood. The process involves heat and water vapor without the use of chemicals. The result is wood with a beautiful warm brown color, free of resin, and dimensionally stable.

    Maintenance of wall cladding

    To extend the lifespan of our wall cladding, here are some maintenance tips;

  • It is advisable to clean the wood regularly. For this you can use a soft brush or a low pressure high pressure cleaner. You clean the wood with water and a mild detergent, suitable for thermally modified wood.

  • Ensure there is good ventilation behind the cladding. Regular inspection of the areas where moisture can accumulate is important. Exposure to moisture can lead to mould formation and this must of course be prevented.

  • To preserve the natural colour, you can treat the wood with a UV protective oil or stain specifically for thermally modified wood. You can repeat this process every 1 to 2 years.

  • Regular check for wear. Damaged parts must be replaced to prevent further damage.

    Installing wall cladding

    Placing wall cladding can be done in different ways and depends on the desired appearance. Often the wood is applied horizontally or vertically. This gives a modern look. Installation must be done carefully. Make sure that no moisture gets behind the wood, with a view to mold formation and decay. Good preparation is half the work. Here are a few tips;

  • Leave the planks for a day or two before installation, this is to allow the wood to acclimatise.

  • Ensure a dry and flat surface.

  • Provide an air gap of at least 2 cm behind the wall cladding. Ventilation is important to prevent mold formation.

  • Use stainless steel screws. Stainless steel is resistant to environmental conditions.

  • Take swelling and shrinkage into account. Thermally modified wood is less sensitive to shrinkage and swelling, but the wood can still move slightly due to temperature and moisture differences. It is important to leave sufficient space between the planks so that when they expand, the planks do not touch each other.

  • In principle, thermal wood does not require any additional stain or paint to improve durability. Under weather conditions, the wood will turn grey over time. If you want to retain the warm colour, apply oil or stain that is suitable for thermal wood.
